What a great night we had, 11 friends on the dock, shooting the Vancouver night skyline. What a day, what a night!
After a protracted period of non-springlike weather, yesterday the sun and warmth finally gave our neighborhood a picture perfect afternoon.

This is the first shot taken with my newly converted X-E2. Conversion to IR was done by the good folks at Life Pixel www.lifepixel.com/ who were recommended by a Flickr friend, Karen O'Grady. Her beautiful Canadian landscape work (www.flickr.com/photos/kgogrady/ was inspirational to say the least, and that prompted me to finally take the IR plunge. This was a quick grab shot taken from our front porch. As soon as the Hyperion camera strap (www.hyperioncamerastraps.com/) arrives from Greece I'll be in business ! FWIW these handmade camera straps are extremely comfortable and strong as well.

This is Tourmaline (Elbaite), Lepidolite, and Albite, Ouro Fino Pegmatite, Freire Cardoso, Coronel Murta, Minas Gerais, Brazil, at the Tucson Gem & Mineral Show.

Tourmaline (Elbaite), Lepidolite, and Albite 17 x 15 x 8 cm (6.69 x 5.91 x 3.15 in) From the collection of Daniel "Dan" R. Kennedy.
Ouro Fino pegmatite, Freire Cardoso, Coronel Murta, Minas Gerais, Brazil
Where does one even start when appraising such a singular specimen like this? In this case, we will start quite literally from the top. The plateau-esque termination of this huge crystal spans a stunning 9.2 centimeters across (as in, the diameter of the crystal), and all nine of those centimeters covers a wonderfully lustrous and shiny surface, with the edges flashing deep green. Down the body of the crystal, the color transitions into a gorgeous and rich olive green, with hints of pink coming through from under the striated surfaces. To the left of this Elbaite is a very unusual cluster of Lepidolite that can be best described like this: perpendicular to the Elbaite are thick, rope-like rows of parallel growth Lepidolite (from the left side they appear to arrange themselves like a triangle) and are subsequently covered in a secondary generation of small Lepidolite chips, which flash and sparkle brightly all around, particularly on each end of the "ropes." This truly is the perfect cabinet specimen: incredible aesthetics, even more unbelievable size, and a combination of two classic mineral species coming together as one. This specimen comes with a custom acrylic base.

As a gemstone, elbaite is a desirable member of the tourmaline group because of the variety and depth of its colours and quality of the crystals. Originally discovered on the island of Elba, Italy in 1913, it has since been found in many parts of the world. In 1994, a major locality was discovered in Canada, at O'Grady Lakes in the Yukon.
Elbaite forms in igneous and metamorphic rocks and veins in association with lepidolite, microcline, and spodumene in granite pegmatites; with andalusite and biotite in schist; and with molybdenite and cassiterite in massive hydrothermal replacement deposits.
Elbaite is allochromatic, meaning trace amounts of impurities can tint crystals, and it can be strongly pleochroic. Every color of the rainbow may be represented by elbaite, some exhibiting multicolor zonation. Microscopic acicular inclusions in some elbaite crystals show the cat's eye effect in polished cabochons.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lepidolite
Lepidolite is a phyllosilicate mineral[6] and a member of the polylithionite-trilithionite series.[4] Lepidolite is part of a three-part series consisting of polylithionite, lepidolite, and trilithionite. All three minerals share similar properties and are caused because of varying ratios of lithium and aluminum in their chemical formulas. The Li:Al ratio varies from 2:1 in polylithionite up to 1.5:1.5 in trilithionite.[7][8]
Lepidolite is found naturally in a variety of colors, mainly pink, purple, and red, but also gray and, rarely, yellow and colorless. Because lepidolite is a lithium-bearing mica, it is often wrongly assumed that lithium is what causes the pink hues that are so characteristic of this mineral. Instead, it is trace amounts of manganese that cause the pink, purple, and red colors.[9][10]

Did a tour of the Copper Coast this Tuesday evening with Olive Gaughan
This was one of the shots from that evening and was totally unexpected.
I rushed to get the camera out of the bag hoping that the colour would say in the clouds and the horses wouldn't move, and fired off a few shots.
A few minutes after taking this shot, the clouds were gone followed swiftly by the horses.
Lough Graney is a lake in County Clare, Ireland. The lake's outlet is the short River Graney, which flows through Lough O'Grady and past the town of Scarriff into the west side of Lough Derg
Isn't it funny how sad you can feel over the death of someone you've never met and most probably wouldn't ever meet. I think it shocked a lot of people though. I would argue he was best loved for his series "For the Love of Dogs", where he was a magnet for the dogs and his love for them was genuine, but we very much enjoyed his teatime show, "The Paul O'Grady Show", with the ability to talk to everyone in the same way, whether they were old, young or big movie stars. I wonder, is he known all around the world?
Here is my tribute.
Paul James O'Grady MBE DL (14 June 1955 – 28 March 2023) was an English comedian, broadcaster, drag queen, actor, and writer. He achieved notability in the London gay scene during the 1980s with his drag persona Lily Savage, through which he gained broader popularity in the 1990s. O'Grady subsequently dropped the character and in the 2000s became the presenter of various television and radio shows, including The Paul O'Grady Show.
O'Grady was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in the 2008 Birthday Honours for services to entertainment. In 2020 he became president of the British Music Hall Society, taking over the role from Roy Hudd. He was a deputy lieutenant for the County of Kent.
O'Grady died "unexpectedly but peacefully" on 28 March 2023, at age 67. His death was announced by his husband, André Portasio, and tributes poured in from global figures and celebrities, including from Camilla, Queen Consort. (from Wikipedia)

It was a massive shock to wake up this morning to learn of the death of Paul O'Grady. I was of the generation that grew up with him as a major tv personality in his drag persona of Lily Savage, though in later years he mainly developed a career as himself. For many of us that was the main exposure we had at the time to seeing crossdressing/drag represented on tv and the mainstream entertainment world as a whole, providing a shining example of men dressing up and expressing themselves through a female persona and doing so with such talent and confidence, as well as being loved and accepted for it.
While Lily may not have been the same direct inspiration for girls like us in the way that she was in the UK drag community (who pretty much to a queen are in mourning and paying tribute right now), I still think there is a lot to be said for viewing Paul as an icon of the LGBTQIA+ community as a whole, not just because of the importance of the representation he provided but also as a genuinely funny and talented entertainer who was also by all accounts an incredibly nice person (especially as an animal-lover) and showed so many of us the wonderful possibilities of dressing and expressing ourselves as a woman. To me that's what truly matters, regardless of the form that expression takes, whether you're a crossdresser, a drag queen, a cosplayer or actor playing feminine roles, or anything like that. .

We had gathered for only one reason.
The Captain had gone rogue.
Intending to stop Hydra at all costs, Cap had gathered various heroes and vigilantes that we've all come in contact with, all of whom have been considered for the Avengers Program.
"So you're sure you're going to be fine with this?"
"I am. 13 should be too. We're loyal to SHIELD."
"Can you get inside his circle?"
"Doubt we can. He hasn't approached us, and we have no idea where he is right now."
I click away on the keyboard, sweat dripping down from my human hand. I don't really know the captain well, but I admire him. His loyalty makes him a good man.
"Maybe I can. I dunno if Scott will trust me, but maybe I can..."
"Doubt we can do that either. We have no idea where he is, remember?"
Eric, seeming different, nods.
"This means you're with us, right?"
"Yeah, if it means not killing people."
Cohen, talking through our earpieces, interjects.
"If you don't mind, 13 and I need to be going. We have errands to run."
"Of course. Stay safe."
"We will. Cohen out."
And with that, Cohen and 13 had joined our "side".
The Iron Spider had been eerily standing there, not saying a word for the entire meeting. Finally he decided to speak up.
"I'm in. I don't know where Kaine is, but I want him to join with us. If you can find him, convince him."
"We'll try, but no guarantees. Allegiances aren't the easiest thing to form these days."
The Iron Spider nods.
We stare at each other, tension covering our conversation like a blanket.
"Well, let's get to work."
And with that, the war began.
